Is it me?

Now I’ll say from the outset – I’ve not played the game yet…

But if the various forms of communication, marketing and pr are anything to go by…I’m confused!

First I was blown away (pardon the pun) by the amazing promo video featuring Eminem in the soundtrack.

Then people on Facebook and Twitter started saying that they were completing the game in 5 hours..!

Then people were getting pissed that they hadn’t completed the game in 5 hours!!!

Then this video started popping up on blogs and the web;

The level which features the murder of innocent Russian people has (duh) become a controversial topic.

The Russian government pulled Modern Warfare 2 as a response to the Russian airport terror level.

So…what the hell is going on?
The game is being hailed as one of the fastest selling games of all time.

Records are being broken for concurrent Xbox Live users playing the game.

That speed could come to a grinding halt with all this genuine negative publicity.

I say genuine, because – it’s one thing when stuff politicians want to ban a violent game and the gamer community gives em the middle finger. But this is different – even gamers are shocked!

Developers Infinity Ward, must have known the firestorm this would cause. but haven’t they undermined an amazing piece of work – with all this bullsh!t?

This strategy of any publicity is good publicity is so flawed and it will bite someone in the butt soon!

    I def. was shocked when I played through it, but hey they did state at the beginning of the game that there is a level that would offend some people and that it is an option to skip (which I personally though was the destruction of D.C. …but that happens all the time)
