Let me start with some facts…

“The High Line in New York City is a 1.45-mile-long structure built in the 1930s to carry freight trains. It runs from the Meatpacking District, through West Chelsea, and ends at 34th Street, next to the Jacob Javits Convention Center. The last train ran on it in 1980″.

Since then it has basically been abandoned, except from some adventurous locals, that in the 90’s starting exploring the tracks, now covered in wild grass and trees that had sprung up.

In 1999, neighborhood residents Robert Hammond and Joshua David created the community group Friends of the High Line[2] to push the idea of turning the High Line into an elevated park or greenway. That idea was put into action in 2006 when Mayor Michael Bloomberg had gotten funding for the project.

In my own little weird way i like the idea that something like that (or part of it) would be allowed to grow into a wilderness in the middle of New York, but maybe that’s just the hippie in me talking.
