Nike Sportswear x Pato miss the target

Reality TV, and the Behind-The-Scenes genre is now the vast majority of programming on all levels – tv, online, whatever.

Privacy isn’t an issue, despite what the media and paparazzi driven industry folk will have you believe.

So when it comes to leveraging this type of stuff into an interesting end product – why are we still being subjected to run of the mill stuff?

Right now, Nike are pushing their #makeithappen campaign, with a lukewarm reaction from the public thus far.

Prior to that, it was the “Always On” campaign seemed like it would be a cross between having a closer relationship with Nike athletes and Nike marketing their premium sports lifestyle goods.

In the video below, the blurb stated, “we capture a glimpse into a the life of Alexandre Pato in this Nike Sportswear “ALWAYS ON” video”

Come on, that not a glimpse into his life! That’s a carefully planned moving photo shoot with some cool shots, nice graphics and photogenic subject.

They have achieved the aim of showing some cool Nike Sportswear clothing, but how good would it have been with an insight into his daily life.

Why couldn’t they deliver what was promised – a real glimpse into the life a Nike athlete?

On the flip side, something far more captivating has been the VOYR webisode series on Jay-Z and Kanye’s ‘Watch The Throne’ tour.

See our article ‘Behind The Throne’ here.

It’s insightful, interesting and revealing…and definitely sells tickets (setting up demand for a world wide tour).

I’m just making the point (again), that don’t promise something and don’t deliver…and there’s nothing wrong with over delivering either!
