Welcome to College
Many question the word college. College traditionally is an educational institution or establishment providing higher education or specialized professional or vocational training. In the modern day college is becoming about one thing, partying. And with the recent documentary being filmed called I’m Shmacked we can see how ridiculously fun and reckless some colleges can be.
The concept behind this I’m Shmacked documentary is to go to the 12 best colleges all across the United States and follow 1 student around for 2-3 days. The results are mind blowing. The greatest mixture between American Pie and Cops that anyone can watch and these are just the trailers.
The country long best college tour started in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the home of cheese steaks and The Fresh Prince, where they visited Temple University. Here they followed around Temple’s own Fresh Prince, Janson (who is actually a friend of a friend of mine). He toured them around Temple and Philly and ended the trailer with a sick Chiddy Bang Concert. Philly looked like a sick city but I don’t know if I liked Temple’s Campus overall. Check it out for your self:
Next the I’m Shmacked crew went to Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. There they followed around a sophomore named Hannah. Hannah seemed to show them a good time with a pool party and Syracuse’s Juice Jam with one of my favorite DJ’s, Avicii, as well as B.O.B. and Chiddy Bang. Syracuse on the other hand looked amazing but it does get really cold up there. And with the amounts of alcohol it seems like you can actually fade into darkness. Here’s the trailer for Syracuse:
Next was Morgantown, West Virgina, home of the University of West Virginia Mountaineers. I mean you can’t really talk school spirit without talking about West Virginia fans. The school spirit is definitely seen in the trailer where they followed around Dan and let the party get the best of them. Beer, beer and more beer is what this school seems to offer. Oh, and I forgot to mention the intense amounts of navy and yellow to represent for Mountaineers nation. Literally no sleep:
The next College needs an Alicia Keys and Jay Z song, well at least the city it’s in has one: New York University in the Greatest City in the World, NYC. I found this to be a surprise because NYU students aren’t known for their college parties and frat boy attitudes. But then again, a University in New York City has to be a blast. They shadowed Darian for one of the best weekends, Halloween. This trailer has a surprise visit from ASAP Rocky and Lil B.
The last trailer that is out as of right now is of my dream school. Michigan University in Ann Arbor Michigan. This trailer is the definition of college, well I don’t mean the traditional definition. They went to Mich for one of the best games of the season, Michigan vs. Nebraska. They found themselves at the games pregame with a raspy voiced young man named Justin. With clips from the football game to a house party that seems more like a club, Michigan seems like the place to be. The funniest part about this trailer was that I was suppose to be in Michigan that weekend and that’s why you get a quick screen shot of my friends Sam Album and Jordan Hill about 2 mintues and 35 seconds into the video. I could have been in this but instead I was taking a Physics Quiz (the other side of college).
But honestly what has college become? Has it lost its educational value and become the home of frat bros and naked women? I know for myself being a college student I see both the educational aspect and the non-stop drinking. State University of New York at Albany is my school and we have had our share of media coverage with last year’s Kegs and Eggs riots but I must say the University and the city of Albany has gone extra hard on security and pretty much stopping all the parties as well as canceling our events. I don’t think its fair to punish the entire student body for the mistakes by a hand full of students. A sophomore at SUNY Albany Ty Conyers agrees and says, “College is seen as American Pie and nothing else and it’s because of the media.” But all in all college is changing by the minute but I’m here to remind everyone that the libraries are still filled every single Sunday night. And even though our school is canceling events, I must quote Roth when I say, “I Love College.”
